About Us
Sankofa's work is based on the principle of "Sankofa," which means "to go back and get it." This principle emphasizes the importance of learning from the past to move forward into the future. By working with youths, Sankofa is helping to create a new generation of leaders who are connected to their culture and community while committed to creating positive social change.

To empower and inspire Black and other youths to improve their life opportunities and to contribute positively to the communities in which they live through arts and social supports.

We aspire for a safer and more cohesive community where Black and all youths can realize their full potential, feel supported and thrive, despite the odds.
Objectives
To provide Black youths with opportunities to learn about and celebrate their Pan-African heritage through arts and cultural education programs.
To build community, develop leadership skills and foster social change through the arts.
To promote unity, understanding and helping to bridge cultural divides.
To encourage personal and artistic growth, critical thinking, and self-expression among youths.
To supporting the development of all youth as leaders and active participants in their communities, encourage positive relationships and personal development.

Our Values
Sankofa - “To go back and get it.”
Sankofa is a word from the Twi language of Ghana that translates to “go back and get it” (San - to return; Ko - to go; Fa - to fetch, to seek and take).
It also refers to the Asante Adinkra symbol represented either with a stylized heart shape or by a bird with its head turned backwards white its feet face forward.
