Sankofa Calgary creates spaces where young people feel seen, families stay connected, and culture is honored.
Sankofa Calgary exists so youth in Calgary always have a place to belong. We partner with families, community leaders, and creatives to offer programs that build confidence, celebrate culture, and open doors to opportunity.
Founded in 2019 by a group of passionate community members, Sankofa Calgary was created to address the unique challenges faced by African and Black youth in our city. Our name, "Sankofa," is derived from the Akan language of Ghana and means "to go back and fetch it," symbolizing the importance of learning from our past to build a better future.
At Sankofa Calgary, we believe in the power of culture, community, and creativity to transform lives. Through our diverse programs and events, we strive to create a supportive environment where young people can explore their identities, develop new skills, and connect with their heritage.
Join us on our journey as we continue to grow and make a positive impact in the lives of youth in Calgary.
